The Athens Local Professional Artists and Craftsmen Association (A.L.P.A.C.A.) will feature locally made art and crafts during its third annual Holiday Shop, Dec. 11 and 12 at the Athens Community Center. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 5p.m. Sunday.
More than 20 local vendors will sell items such as jewelry, ceramics, glasswork, handmade clothing, baskets, fine art and children's goods. Vendors include:

The event is free and open to the public. The Athens Community Center is located at 701 E. State St.Athens, Ohio. The Athens Local Professional Artists and Craftsmen Association formed in 2008 to support and promote artists and craftsmen in Athens County and the surrounding region. The group sponsors various local exhibits, shows and special events throughout the year, and provides business information and networking for area craftsmen. Tis the Season....

The ALPACA board met on Monday, November 8th 2010 to talk about the Holiday Show that will be happening in December.
Please remember to send in your applications to Lori with your money. We are working on trying to get some musical guests to play so please email Nancy at musictoo@hotmail.com if you know of anyone who wants to play music in the lobby for the show. Think about any kids in bands, church groups, local people or yourself! We are also looking for a Santa, maybe a hayride or some other form of entertainment. Please let us know if you have any ideas for us!

She hand crafts glass beads and contructs amazing jewlery in a very wide variety of styles. HerArt and IWF

Please come to the Athens County Public Library on Wednesday March 3rd to celebrate members of ALPACA They are going to display the art they made for the HerArt show. There is a reception from 5:30 to 7:30pm with cake and punch. Call the APL with questions.

We will also have people set up on Sunday March 7th for the International Women's Day Festival at Baker Center. It will be from 2pm to 6pm on the campus of Ohio University. Call the Women's Center at Ohio University with questions.

Nelsonville Music Festival

The vendors application should be online for the Nelsonville Music Festival May 14th-16th at their website in the next two weeks. The deadline for the application is May 1st and the feature act is Loretta Lynn.

At the Library......

Congratulations to Janet and Dave Gustafson for their beautiful show at the Athens County Library. Their fused and stained glass was a beautiful addition to the library. You can contact them by email if you have any questions about their art.
Currently at the library is Kelly Lawrence from Green Mantle Studios and her wonderful art work. She is a local clay artist who has a diverse collection of pieces on display through March. Her reception will be on Wednesday February 10th at 5:30pm to 7pm.
In March the display will be from HerArt which is a show that was made up of local women artists who all want better heart health for women. You can see more of the project at http://herart.shutterfly.com/26. There are many of the women from ALPACA in this show.

New Business

Hello everyone and sorry it has been so long since I have posted. We had a meeting in January about a lot of business items and now we are meeting in February to talk more about new and old issues. Here are some things we are talking about:

1. T shirt ideas- anyone who wants to submit ideas for a t shirt design please contact Don about ideas.

2. We are advertised in the Ohio Arts Festivals and Competitions 2010 competition directory. Check us out at www.oac.state.oh.us.

3. The 2010 Holiday Show will be held at the Athens Community Center on December 11th and 12th. We are currently working on this show so please send ideas/questions to Dave.

4. Please send any ideas for advertising for this year to Janet.

Athens Tree Lighting

These are pictures from the Athens Tree Lighting that took place in December 2009. Lori and Don Hibbard planned the event with help from other ALPACA members. This was a fun event that gave the kids uptown an activity to do while waiting for Santa pictures.
